Find your summer-slim body
By Eva Cwynar
It’s summer and everyone wants to feel light and look slim enough to wear shorts and even a bathing suit comfortably. We want to feel healthy and good about ourselves. Believe it or not, it’s easy to make small changes in our lives that will promote getting slimmer. In fact, making just one change at a time can get you on your way to your slim summer.
Stay hydrated. Our cells are 65-90% water so keeping them hydrated keeps your body functioning at a more optimal level. When you don’t drink enough water, your cells will actually hold onto water because they’re concerned they won’t have enough. The result is you look and feel puffy. You should aim for at least 8 cups of fluid each day, staying away from sugar-loaded juices, frozen smoothies and too much caffeine. Water is best.
Eat fiber. Fiber keeps your body running smoothly, again eliminating bloating and keeping toxins from building up. Make sure to eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables throughout each day.
Avoid process. By process, I’m referring to ready-prepared, packaged foods and frozen foods from the grocery or convenience store. While they may be easy and inexpensive, they have little nutritional value and are loaded with sodium to preserve their shelf life. Sodium in large amounts is counterproductive and makes you retain water. Retaining makes you look and feel heavy.
Keep moving! When you exercise or are otherwise physically active, you tend to make better food choices simply because you’re feeling better in general. Choose an activity or exercise you enjoy like walking, cycling or even gardening and try to engage in it every day for at least 30 minutes when you have time. The summer is the perfect time to make the commitment. Put on some sunscreen, get out there and go.
Your summer slim body is waiting for you. Enjoy!
