It seems like my metabolism has slowed to next to nothing. How can I jumpstart it?
A: A slow metabolism can be the result of a variety of reasons. Metabolism results from a complex group of processes that results in energy synthesis from nutrients. While a slow metabolism can be due to a hormone imbalance or endocrine system disorder, it’s most likely because of an unhealthy lifestyle, poor eating habits, stress and lack of physical activity.
If you have kids, you know what I’m talking about. They’re moving constantly, walking, jumping, crawling, climbing, dancing. As adults we often wonder where they get all of that energy. The answer is a healthy metabolism.
To jumpstart your metabolism, you need to also walk, jump and dance. Scientists have proven that one hour of exercising can increase metabolism by 10 – 15 percent because you’re burning fat more effectively. Eat small balanced meals to keep insulin levels optimized, and get moving. Start by getting up from your chair and standing up straight. Place your feet together, keep your palms at your side, relax your shoulders and keep your back straight. Tuck in your tummy to flex your abdominal muscles. Breathe deeply. Now it’s time to get outside, or hit the treadmill. Turn on some tunes. Take a lesson from your kids and dance.
